Routes to Retail
4 Day Course

This is a four day course, syllabus consists of 6 modules; Working in Retail, Customer Services, Communication, Challenging Behaviour, Safe Moving & Handling (Objects), EFAW.  This would be beneficial for anyone working or wishing to work in the retail sector to give them an insight and taster of what to expect   The course runs for four consecutive days from 09:00-17:00 Monday to Friday. The aim of the course is to prepare the client for a role in the retail sector.

Entry Requirements: There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Qualification Gained: The qualification gained from this course is a HSC Futures Certificate.

Course Breakdown:
DAY 1 (AM) WORKING IN RETAIL.

This 3 hour course covers what it’s like to work in the retail sector, career opportunities, what retail employers are looking for and the various roles eg; Cashier, Sales Assistant, Retail Associate, Retail buyer, Retail Manager, Merchandiser, Store Manager.

DAY 1 (PM) CUSTOMER SERVICES

This 3 hour course is aimed at those working or wishing to work in a customer focussed role across various sectors. The course covers how to communicate effectively with customers, how to create a positive impression, how to develop and maintain customer service standards, how to plan good customer service.

DAY 2 (AM) COMMUNICATION

This qualification is a 3 hour course covering Verbal and non verbal communication. The course will allow you to communicate effectively with staff and clients to ensure understanding and clarity in the relaying of information. The aims and objectives are Communicating effectively, Listening skills, Touch, Eye contact, Body Language, Facial expressions, Barriers to Communication.

DAY 2 (PM) CHALLENGING BEVAVIOURS

This is 3 hour course that is aimed at those working in situations where they may face challenging behaviour from individuals. The course will equip them with the skills and knowledge of how to deal with these situations appropriately. The content covers Legislation and the Law, Violence and Aggression in the Workplace, Risk Assessment, Warning Signs, Possible Trigger Factors, De escalation Techniques, Defusing Acts of Aggression.

DAY 3 SAFE MOVING AND HANDLING (OBJECTS)

This 1 day course is designed to highlight the problems associated with incorrect manual handling. It aims to identify the requirements to employees of the Manual Handling Operations 1992 and the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1992 (risk assessment). This course is to train staff in the safest aspects of moving and handling in the work place and to understand the risks to themselves. Candidates should include anyone who carries out manual handling tasks as part of their work role. There is a multiple choice assessment at the end of the course.

DAY 4 EFAW

This one day module is an abbreviated First Aid Course covering the most important situations and injuries. The course is aimed at anyone who works in a job role which requires a first aid qualification or someone who just wishes to be generally qualified in the area of First Aid. It covers roles and responsibilities of an emergency first aider, assessing an incident, managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR and AED use, Recovery Position, Choking, Seizures, Shock, Wounds and bleeding, Minor Injuries including cuts and grazes, minor burns and scalds. There is a set multiple choice examination (Qualsafe Awards) at the end of this session.
